Looking for a place to stay in Jozankei Onsen? Experience healing at Kyoritsu Resort’s Yuraku Souan
Just an hour’s drive from central Sapporo lies Jozankei Onsen, surrounded by Hokkaido’s beautiful nature.

This time, I stayed at Yuraku Souan, a traditional-style ryokan run by Kyoritsu Resort. Unlike their popular “La Vista” hotels, this place offered a truly authentic, atmospheric stay.

Take off your shoes and relax – Tatami floors throughout the inn

Inside, the entire floor is covered with tatami mats, so you spend your time barefoot or in socks. The warm, calming Japanese-style interior makes you feel like you’ve escaped daily life.
At the lounge overlooking the courtyard, you can help yourself to coffee or tea anytime, and at the adjacent café corner, you can even do a tea tasting.

Enjoy more than 7 types of baths

On the basement floor, the large communal bath area called “Ten-no-Yu” offers:
・Hinoki (cypress) bath
・Open-air bath
・Rock bath
・Muso-yu (clear bath)
・Outdoor pot baths
・Ganbanyoku (stone sauna)
・Waterfall shower bath
・Sauna

The sodium chloride spring water keeps you warm to the core.
Plus, there are four private baths (hinoki bath, ceramic bath, etc.) available without reservation. If there’s an open slot, you can use them as many times as you like.

Generous free services unique to Kyoritsu Resort

What made the stay extra special were the free service and drinks:
・After-bath ice cream (night)
・Lactic acid drink (morning)
・Late-night ramen “Yonaki Soba” (10:00pm–11:00pm)
・Free yukata rental (different from the room’s samue loungewear)
・Dagashi snack bar and tea buffet
You can truly enjoy so much without any extra charge – that’s the charm of Kyoritsu Resort.

A relaxing stay in a Japanese-Western room with a private hot spring bath

I stayed in a Hollywood Twin Japanese-Western room (35㎡).
It had two single beds, a low table with a sofa on tatami flooring, and felt spacious without being overwhelming.
The room was well-equipped with:
・A private cypress hot spring bath
・Coffee grinder set with beans
・Hokkaido mineral water
・Japanese sweets and snacks
Everything was thoughtfully prepared to enhance your stay.

Starting the day with an impressive Japanese breakfast

Breakfast was a Japanese set meal featuring seasonal ingredients from Hokkaido.
It changes daily, but here’s what I had:
・Colorful small dishes (komatsuna with sesame, nanohana with vinegared miso)
・Nimono (simmered dishes like meat tofu)
・Grilled fish (hokke, mirin-marinated fish)
・White rolled omelet topped with minced shrimp sauce
・Steamed veggies (Inca no Mezame potatoes, white asparagus) with bagna cauda-style sauce
・Freshly cooked Yume Pirika rice and miso soup
・Panna cotta with haskap berry sauce
It felt like a full Japanese course meal, and the rice cooked in an earthen pot was all-you-can-eat – a blissful start to the day.

Summary: Yuraku Souan is a must-repeat inn with hot springs, great food, and total relaxation
Wrapped in a calming Japanese atmosphere, with its amazing hot springs, delicious breakfast, and generous free services, Yuraku Souan in Jozankei is an inn I’ll definitely revisit.
It’s perfect not just for Kyoritsu Resort fans but also for anyone who wants a quiet retreat in nature.
I’m already looking forward to staying here again on my next Sapporo trip.
